Plans for August 2nd

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Phillies, 7:00pm
On-field before the game the Cardinals will recognize Pat and David Pokorny for their efforts to raise awareness of PKD and to celebrate the start the next day of the Ride to Pike's Peak.

August 3rd to 6th

Everything is subject to weather and other changes.

August 3rd we will leave Fort Bellefontaine and travel a mix of rolling hills, commercial roads, a narrow stretch of 2-lane and Earth City Industrial Park to Creve Coeur Park to the Katy Trail. I've posted a map on line at USATF route database. To stay flat we'll ride a combination of Katy Trail and Highway 94 through St. Charles, Augusta and end in Hermann

August 4th we will leave Hermann for Jefferson City and south to Lake of the Ozarks (staying in Bagnell)

August 5th we will visit Bagnell Dam amd then travel west through Warsaw to Osceola. We continue westto the Kansas border. Saturday night we'll visit the Osage Villages historic site at the Missouri Four Rivers Conservation Area.

August 6th at 1:00pm the Kansas City Royals will recognize Pat and David Pokorny's efforts to raise awareness for PKD and the need for organ donors on-field before the Royals game.

August 7th to 9th

Between August 7 and 9 we will travel west through Kansas.

We'll stay the night or pass through Prescott, Vernon, Virgil, El Dorado, Wichita, South Hutchinson and Larned. Larned is the home of the Santa Fe Trail Historic site and the lead organizer of the Zebulon Pike 200th commemoration.

August 10th to 12th

Everything is subject to weather and other changes.Between August 10 and 12 we will continue west through Kansas and if weather and everything is favorable we'll enter Colorado on August 12.

We'll stay the night or pass through Larned, Dodge City, Garden City, Lakin and Lamar, Colorado

August 13th to 15th

Everything is subject to weather and other changes.

Between August 13 and 15 we will travel west through Colorado along the Arkansas River before turning north to Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak.

We'll stay the night or pass through Lamar, Los Animas, Fowler, Pueblo, Fountain, Colorado Springs. Ideally, we'll end the ride on August 15 and begin resting for the marathon.

August 16th to 18th

Between August 16 and 18 we will rest.

On August 17th we will drive to Denver where FSN Rocky Mountain (a regional sports network) and the Colorado Rockies will be recognizing Pat and David's efforts to raise awareness of PKD and the need for organ donors before the game and during the game telecast on FSN Rocky Mountain.

On August 18 my son flies into Colorado Springs with about 10 friends from the 180 Energy Runners who are racing the Pikes Peak Ascent or the Marathon.

August 19th to 20th

We'll be camping in Manitou Springs, resting and preparing for Sunday and the Pikes Peak Marathon. On Saturday a few friends will be racing in the Pikes Peak Ascent so we'll cheer for them.

Ride Along With Us

We'd love to have folks join us. This is not a supported ride so prepare appropriately but anyone can join at least the morning starts.

Most days there is a lot of distance to ride and eventually we'll need to pick up the pace. However we are planning to enjoy a group ride at the beginning of each day that anyone can participate in.

Route Advice Appreciated

The route is designed to (1) follow the Pike Expedition along the Missouri and Osage Rivers, the cross land to the Arkansas River and finally turning north to Pikes Peak and (2) best achieve our goals of PKD and organ donor awareness.
